Awning Handy



AwningHandy allows you to tension and hold your awning poles in position, so that you have a free hand to tighten your poles, preventing loss of tension. You will require a good quality cordless drill ideally minimum 18/24 volt (not supplied). Caravan Steady Pack Product Description:

The caravan steady pack consists of three different length bars.  You can then choose which bar you prefer to use, and fits your caravan best when raising or lowering your caravan steadies.  The simple push fitting enables the bar to be pulled on and off the adaptor for ease of use.  In the pack you will also receive a 19mm socket, as this is the size of socket required for UK specification caravans (and most but not all continental caravans).

'I have my drill set up so that on arrival at a site, I have the 19mm socket fitted to lower the caravan steadies**.  I then pull off the 19mm socket and push on the 13mm socket for my ScrewPegs – or the 15mm socket if I’am using EzyPegs, it really is that simple!!

I don’t need to use an extension bar for my caravan steadies as the steady mechanism is easily accessible, but on some caravans the mechanism is set someway underneath the caravan, therefore our push fit caravan extension bars may be used to save over reaching.'

Drill Adaptor

This simple drill adaptor allows you to use your drill for a variety of purposes.  Designed for use with a cordless drill, our versatile 3/8th drill adaptor will accept any of the sockets required for ‘putting in’ ScrewPegs, EzyPegs or Groundsheet Pegs.  It can also be used to raise and lower Caravan Steadies by using a 19mm socket*, although an extension bar may be required**. 

The adaptor is designed with a simple push fitting that allows sockets to be very easily interchanged. (I have mine set up so that on arrival at a site, I have the 19mm socket fitted to lower the caravan steadies**.  I then pull off the 19mm socket and push on the 13mm socket for my ScrewPegs – or the 15mm socket if I’am using EzyPegs, it really is that simple!!)

*19mm is the socket size required for UK specification caravans and most of the common continental type caravans.

6” / 15cm Groundsheet Peg

The Groundsheet Peg is designed for use within the awning.  The plastic top of the peg is a ‘soft’ plastic in order that it molds to the ground neatly and unobtrusively.  The peg itself is made from 6mm steel.  These lightweight pegs are the ideal pegs for holding down your groundsheet, simple to use with good ground-holding abilities.

• The 15cm Groundsheet Peg is a tough peg that will enter most ground compositions. If you need a more robust option, then choose the 6” / 15cm ScrewPeg (8mm steel).
  

Please note: Only suitable if ‘eyelets’ are fitted to the groundsheet.  If you choose the Groundsheet Peg then the eyelets will need to accept a 6mm diameter peg.  If you choose the 15cm ScrewPeg then the eyelets will need to accept an 8mm diameter peg (it is very rare that eyelets are less than this).  The other option if eyelets are not fitted is to use a product called a ‘cling-on’ – please refer to our products list for more information on cling-on uses.

Masonry Bit 6.5mm x 200mm.

We offer a masonry bit because while ScrewPegs are made from steel, and they are an extremely tough peg, they will not ‘go through’ all and any ground conditions.   They will enter hard and demanding ground conditions, including correctly constructed hardstanding pitches.  They will not however ‘go through’ Tarmac, concrete or rock – in very difficult, exceptionally hard ground conditions, we suggest that a pilot hole is drilled with a 6.5mm x 200mm, masonry bit.

With the masonry bit fitted in the drill, go round the awning making pilot holes (placing by hand the ScrewPeg into the pilot hole as you go).  Then having gone round the awning simply swap the masonry bit for the drill adaptor and socket and put the ScrewPegs into the pilot holes.  We must stress that this is not normally required – but there may be occasions when you are faced with an exceptionally hard pitch where this technique may be required.

It is also worth mentioning that the type and quality of drill being used can also make a major difference to how easy your ScrewPegs go into the ground.  We recommend a minimum 18v or 24v domestic cordless hammer drill with two rechargeable batteries.

'As an owner of a caravan park that has 68 fully serviced hardstanding pitches, all suitable for awnings. There are rare occasions were some caravan parks including some club sites (I am also a club member) have pitches constructed incorrectly, the root of the problem often goes back to the original construction of the pitches.

While the correct materials may have been used in the construction, often well meaning workmen have then used a vibrating ride-on roller, the type used for road construction. The intention being to create a hard flat pitch, their efforts however are misguided as the end result can be pitches that are ridiculously hard making the job of the poor caravanner all that more difficult when erecting their awning!'
