ScrewPegs – Development…
Edward Corwood, Moor View Touring Park:
"The idea for ScrewPegs simply came from watching guests on our Touring Park putting up their awnings and tents. We have 68 pitches and all but two of our pitches are hardstanding pitches; furthermore, many of our guests are in the 50+ age group. For some guests putting up the awning was a real struggle, having to kneel and bend, and using a mallet for those that had arthritis was clearly difficult. There had to be an easier way!!
Many guests already carried a cordless drill for raising / lowering their caravan steadies….. a cordless drill must be easier than a mallet I thought… and so it was, my original DIY prototypes worked well, but definitely needed refining to make them fit for purpose. It was at this point I contacted my friend and now colleague Jim Tyson. Jim is a design engineer (and camper) with years of experience. With his knowledge of materials and design expertise we produced what everyone now recognises as ScrewPegs."
Edward Corwood:
Edward and his wife Liz own and manage Moor View Touring Park in South Devon. As caravanners themselves, they understand caravanning and what caravanners want.
“We have developed Moor View to meet the needs of a particular part of the caravanning community.”
Moor View appeals in the main to couples, with the vast majority of guests being over 50. Nearly all their pitches are hardstanding pitches, and all of these are fully serviced pitches with electric, water and grey-waste hooks-up.
“We really like dealing with guests in this age bracket. We find that guests like the friendly atmosphere that Moor View provides, and because guests have chosen Moor View for its quiet yet central location, they meet like minded people on site – which all adds to the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We are delighted that many guests come back again and again when they visit this wonderful part of South Devon.”
Jim Tyson:
Jim is a design engineer with years of experience working on many major projects. In recent years he has specialised in the automotive industry. When Edward spoke with Jim about his idea for ScrewPegs, Jim's design expertise and knowledge of materials was invaluable. ScrewPegs was a relatively simple design, but interestingly because Jim approached the design with fresh eyes, his design for the ScrewPegs top was totally different.
Jim has subsequently used the knowledge from the ScrewPegs development work to produce the new product EzyPegs, again a tent / awing peg (or stake as they say in the states) but EzyPegs are designed for grass type pitches. Made of exceptionally strong plastics Jim's has once again proved the value of practical good design, with a product that has been tested in extreme conditions.
